Your questions answered
CDP reporting means disclosing your company's environmental performance through CDP, the global non-profit that runs the world's most widely used environmental disclosure system. You complete a standardised questionnaire, submit it through CDP's online Portal, and receive a score based on the quality and completeness of your disclosure..
No. CDP is voluntary and not required by law. In practice it can be hard to decline, because more than 270 large buyers (including Microsoft, Walmart and Nike) and over 540 financial institutions request data directly through CDP. Turning down a request can affect a commercial or investment relationship.
Most first-time disclosers are asked through CDP's Supply Chain programme, where major buyers collect environmental data from their suppliers. Around 45,000 suppliers were asked to disclose this way in 2025. The rest are usually responding to an investor request. In both cases, the requester uses your score to gauge progress and manage risk in their own supply chain.
At minimum: Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in tCO₂e aligned with the GHG Protocol, your methodology and emissions factors, your inventory boundary, verification status, board-level governance detail, climate-related risks and opportunities, and any reduction targets with progress. Seedling produces the full-scope footprint and supports the targets and governance detail.
Onboarding typically takes two to four weeks, with less than one day of your time. You finish with a full-scope, expert-checked footprint and a reduction plan you can take straight into the Portal.
