What is a GHG Protocol emissions report and what does it need to include?

A GHG Protocol-aligned report is a structured disclosure of a business's greenhouse gas emissions, covering Scope 1, 2 and 3 where material. At minimum it should state total emissions by scope, explain the reporting boundary and methodology, identify the emission factors used and document any significant assumptions. Our GHG Summary Report is structured to meet these requirements and is generated automatically from your verified data.

Do I need a GHG report even if emissions reporting is not a legal requirement for my business?

Increasingly, yes. Even where there is no regulatory obligation, emissions disclosure is requested by large customers during procurement, by investors as part of ESG due diligence and by supply chain partners working to address their own Scope 3 footprint. Having a verified, professionally structured GHG report ready to share puts you in a stronger position whenever those requests arrive.

How is a GHG Summary Report different from a Carbon Reduction Plan or SECR report?

A GHG Summary Report is a statement of emissions, focused on what your footprint is and how it was calculated. A Carbon Reduction Plan goes further, adding a net zero commitment and reduction initiatives. SECR is a UK regulatory requirement with a specific format for large companies reporting through their annual accounts. The GHG Summary Report is the most transferable format, accepted across the widest range of stakeholder contexts.

How often should I produce a GHG emissions report?

Annual reporting aligned to your financial year is standard practice and allows year-on-year comparison.
