The Future of Financial Accounting Includes Carbon

Help your clients measure, reduce, and report their carbon emissions - with our easy-to-use platform and expert support.

Expand Into Carbon Footprinting With Seedling

As businesses come under increasing pressure from regulators, investors, and customers to measure and report their emissions, more accounting firms are building out ESG and carbon footprinting services in response.

Seedling helps accountancies do this quickly and confidently - with our easy-to-use carbon accounting software, clear methodology, and expert delivery support, you can launch and scale an offering without the overhead of building a specialist team from scratch.

Fully Integrated With Your Existing Accounting Proccesses

Carbon accounting is an extension of the work accounting firms already do.

You already manage much of the financial and operational data required to calculate emissions, and carbon reporting follows the same annual cycle as financial reporting - aligned to the fiscal year.

That makes your firm uniquely positioned to help clients measure, understand, and disclose their environmental impact alongside their financial performance.

With Seedling's accounting integrations (Xero, Sage, QB), auto-categorisation tools and one-click reports (including SECR and others), we work seamlessly alongside you and your client's existing processes.

"It's so nice to speak with someone who clearly knows what they’re talking about when it comes to footprinting. I’m so much happier working with a company like that, than a faceless SaaS product that offers no relationship."

"We were keen to measure our emissions but didn’t know where to start. As an SME with little carbon accounting experience – and a manufacturer needing to capture trickier areas like material inputs – Seedling’s platform and 1:1 support were invaluable. The Seedling team made a potentially complicated process straightforward for us. We’re now clear on our key hotspots and have a credible reduction plan we’re proud to share."

FAQs

Your questions answered

Is Seedling a good fit for my clients?

Seedling is built for small to mid-market businesses without an internal ESG or carbon team. We have clients ranging from 10 FTEs right up to 1000+ FTEs. We're less suitable for large multinationals / listed businesses with 5000+ FTEs. These tend to have complex needs and are better suited to working with a consultancy or enterprise-focused platform.

What standards does Seedling align to?

Seedling is built on the GHG Protocol - the global gold standard for carbon accounting and reporting. We also support ISO 14064 measurement and verification.

Do we need any carbon footprinting expertise to offer this?

Not at all. You can use Seedling as a fully supported delivery partner, where our team handles the technical carbon calculations and methodology behind the scenes. If you prefer to build in-house capability, we also provide the software, training, and support your team needs to deliver carbon reporting independently.

How does pricing work?

Our base pricing is determined by the client's size and complexity (see our Pricing page). We then offer discounts to our partners which depend on volumes and the level of involvement we have (software-only vs fully-outsourced). Get in touch for more details!

Is carbon reporting something our clients actually need?

As you probably know, all "large" (>250 FTE) businesses need to report some energy and carbon under SECR alongside their annual financial reporting. Alongside this, it's increasingly common for businesses of all sizes to face requests from clients, investors and other stakeholders for carbon data - for example, as part of tenders for government contracts.
