Your questions answered
Seedling's project emission tool has been built based on guidance from the RICS Whole Lifecycle Carbon Assessment guidance - specific to the UK construction sector. The RICS guidance is itself based on the BS EN 15978 standard, which is a globally-used standard for assessing the sustainability of construction works.
The tool allows you to input data relating to the upfront embodied carbon of your project. This includes the emissions of your products / materials (known as A1-3), transportation to site (A4, and fuel / energy / waste on site. We can accomodate any EPD data you have for specific products - or you can use our general construction-specific emission factors where no EPD exists.
While there is no current national-level mandatroy reporting for mbodied or whole-life project emission reporting, many local authorities have implemented local requirements. In addition, project-level reports are increasingly mandated by large Tier 1 contractors across their subcontractor base.
The project tool allows you to state the current stage of the project, from concept to constructed. At each stage, there are different expectations in terms of data accuracy - at the early stages data is estimated based on drawings, designs, and other project info. This is often shared ahead of construction. After construction, you will have better "actual" data and can duplicate the report, edit the data to reflect genuine usage, and reshare.
Using our project emissions calculator, you can input your project-level data and receive a shareable, RICS-aligned embodied carbon report in minutes.
