Seedling x Meaningful Planet: a smarter way to manage mobile emissions

Business mobile plans sit within your company’s Scope 3 emissions, but it's often measured using rough estimates rather than real data. We've partnered with Meaningful Planet to help change that.
The Meaningful Planet platform tracks the carbon impact of SIM usage, giving businesses a practical way to access accurate mobile emissions data. Combined with Seedling, that means a more complete, credible picture of your footprint, with mobile emissions seamlessly incorporated into your reporting.
Who are Meaningful Planet?
Meaningful Planet is a B Corp certified UK business mobile provider, founded by Richard West, Nick Falkowski, and Piotr Jaworski. They help organisations simplify their mobile estate, cut unnecessary cost and admin, and bring real visibility to the emissions associated with mobile connectivity (calls, texts and data).
Co-founders Richard and Nick were inspired to build the business after scaling Bionic into one of the UK's leading B2B services companies, where they worked with thousands of SMEs. They saw a telecoms market still built on confusing tariffs, poor visibility, and rigid contracts, and set out to build a simpler alternative.
Environmental impact is built into how the business runs, in two ways:
- They offset 100% of the calculated emissions from their customers' mobile connectivity, using UK-based carbon credits, certified under the Woodland Carbon Code and the IUCN UK Peatland Code.
- They donate 10% of their B2B profits to environmental partners, including the Wildlife Trusts, funding nature recovery and restoration work in the UK.
At the centre of it is MILO, their SIM management platform. MILO gives businesses clear visibility over their mobile estate, usage and spend, alongside data on the carbon impact of that connectivity. It turns an everyday service into something measurable, rather than a cost that gets ignored.
Why mobile belongs in your Scope 3
For most businesses, business mobile falls under Scope 3, Category 1 (purchased goods and services). On its own it's unlikely to be a major hotspot, but it shares a problem with a lot of Scope 3 categories: the data is patchy, and what does exist is often estimated from spend rather than real activity.
That matters because spend-based estimates only ever track your spending. They don't reflect what you're actually doing to reduce emissions, and they don't move when you make a genuine improvement. Activity data, the real emissions data behind a process, gives you a footprint that's both more accurate and more useful, because it responds to the changes you make.
This is where the two platforms fit together. Meaningful Planet measures the carbon impact of your SIM usage directly, and that data can be used in your Seedling footprint to replace an estimate with something grounded in real usage.
What this means if you're a Seedling client
If you already use Seedling, Meaningful Planet gives you a business mobile provider that has built environmental impact into its model rather than bolting it on.
There are two practical benefits:
- A clearer mobile estate. MILO simplifies how you manage SIMs, plans and spend, with the kind of visibility most business mobile contracts don't offer.
- Better footprint data. Emissions data from your Meaningful Planet dashboard can improve the accuracy of the mobile portion of your carbon footprint in Seedling, so you're reporting on real usage rather than a spend-based proxy.
What this means if you're a Meaningful Planet customer
If you've come from Meaningful Planet, Seedling helps you take the next step beyond a single operational area.
We pair carbon management software with one-to-one support from a dedicated carbon expert, so you can measure a full-scope footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, build a credible plan to reduce emissions, and report with confidence, whether that's for a client disclosure, a public sector bid, B Corp, or EcoVadis. You don't need in-house carbon expertise to get there - more than 500 businesses trust us to handle that for them.
Our shared focus on measurable action
What brought Seedling & Meaningful Planet together is a shared view that environmental impact has to be real and measurable, not a claim.
In Richard's words:
"Seedling felt like a very natural partner for Meaningful Planet because we are both trying to help businesses turn sustainability from good intent into practical, measurable action."
And from our co-founder Aimée Tennant:
"What stood out to us about Meaningful Planet is their focus on combining simplicity with credible carbon data. That's exactly the approach we take at Seedling, and it's why this partnership feels like such a natural fit."
Both businesses are trying to make essential services simpler and the impact of them clearer. Meaningful Planet does that for business mobile, and Seedling does it for your carbon footprint. Together, that's a more joined-up way to manage operational spend and make practical progress on emissions.
