Your questions answered
ISO 14064 verification is the independent assessment process used to confirm that an organization’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data and reports are accurate, complete, consistent, transparent, and in accordance with the ISO 14064 standard. It ensures that GHG claims are credible and verifiable by a qualified third party.
ISO 14064-1: Provides requirements for quantifying and reporting GHG emissions and removals at the organisational level.
ISO 14064-2: Focuses on projects that reduce or remove GHG emissions.
ISO 14064-3: Specifies the verification and validation process, detailing how independent verifiers evaluate GHG statements.
Verification increases credibility and transparency of GHG reporting, building trust with stakeholders, regulators, and investors. It also supports compliance with carbon disclosure requirements or carbon neutrality claims.
Verification must be conducted by an independent, accredited third-party verifier or verification body (often accredited under ISO 14065). These verifiers must have technical expertise in GHG accounting and follow impartial procedures to ensure objectivity.
We focus on helping businesses to measure their emissions. The verifier must be independent of the organisation responsible for or involved in the emission measurement - otherwise we'd be marking our own homework!
