Xero and Sage Carbon Accounting Integration

What’s New: Our Xero and Sage Carbon Accounting Integration
We’ve updated the Suppliers section of our footprint to make it easier than ever to pull in your spend data and analyse emission across your supply chain. Simply connect your Xero or Sage account and we’ll automatically pull in a summary of spend across all of your suppliers – including only the spend that matters.
An initial spend-based carbon footprint is a great first step for identifying key hotspots. Although it doesn’t cover everything – and it can be quite high-level – it’s a quick and easy way to get an estimate of your emissions and a sense of where to prioritise emission reduction and accuracy improvements.

How Does The Xero and Sage Integration Work?
In the Suppliers section, just sign in to your Xero or Sage account to connect it to Seedling. You can then choose the categories of spend to pull in.
We preselect the standard Xero and Sage codes that are relevant (i.e. those that relate to goods and services, but not salary payments, tax etc), but if you have custom categories then you can select these manually too.
Then, we simply analyse all of your transactions within those categories, and aggregate them all by supplier. Within a 20-30 seconds, you’ll see a summary of your spend by supplier.
Combine with AI-enabled Matching: Even More Efficient!
Once you’ve pulled in your data, it’s a case of simply matching each supplier to one of our ~100 categories of good or service – each of which carries a different emission intensity.
If you have 100s of suppliers, this can be time-consuming! So to save you even more time, we’ve built an AI matching feature. Our AI engine will analyse the name of the supplier and combine multiple data points (e.g. from web searches, Companies House) to determine the best-fit category.
It’s still a good idea to match your top 20 or 30 suppliers individually – AI can never be perfect! But AI matching is a great way of quickly handling 100s of small suppliers.
What's next?
With our integrations and AI-matching, we’ve turned spend-based supply chain analysis from a manual, time-intensive process – involving CSVs and hours of tagging – into a 5-minute job.
That means you can spend more time trying to input more accurate, activity-based data (like kWh of energy usage, or miles travelled by plane), as well as thinking about how to actually reduce your footprint – the aim of the game, after all!
Use Quickbooks? We're working on it! It's in the immediate development pipeline for 2025 Q3.
